After going through a liposuction surgery, one needs to rest for 1-2 days. Keep legs elevated while lying or sitting. Then, short walks are encouraged and permitted, for the day after surgery. Furthermore, ice packs on the suctioned areas should be applied for the first 48 hours. Finally, for the first night, a patient needs to stay in the company of a responsible adult.
Similarly, for the first 24-48 hours, it is normal for wounds to ooze excessively. Local anaesthetic fluid injected as part of the procedure is responsible for the same. You should use plastic sheeting to protect bedclothes.
When on pain medication or on the first day after the surgery, don’t operate any machinery, don’t drive and don’t drink alcohol.
Too much of activities after the immediate postoperative period shall result in possible bleeding and excessive swelling.
Pain
Use medicine for pain relief as prescribed by your cosmetic surgeon. In case if pain still persists, please contact your cosmetic surgeon.
Bandage
After 72 hours of surgery, you can remove the bandages. Once the bandage is off, you may shower fully.
Pressure Garment
One must wear a pressure garment for 24 hours a day for 4 weeks and after 4 weeks, one should wear it for 12-18 hours a day for coming 4 weeks.
Activities
One can return to a sedentary type of work after one week. You can begin with short walks after one week.
The patient can resume driving after a week. While aerobics, jogging, tennis etc can be resumed only after approximately 3-4 weeks.
You can indulge in easy swimming, three weeks after the surgery. To protect skin from sunburn use SPF 15 sunscreen while swimming.
Massage
The areas where liposuction has been done should be massaged. However, it is difficult where bruising is present. Lightly massage after 1-2 weeks in a circular motion over on the treated area.
